I finished re-editing the typescript months ago and then converted that to epub format myself (OK, I’m a control-freak but the text does contain some foreign glyphs and characters so I embedded these in the ebook) and that epub version has been ready to read for weeks. The ebook is a detailed record of traveling through Turkey, with my partner, meeting normal people, like you and me, doing normal things as normal people do, before tourism really started to change both the country and the people in the regions of tourism, mainly along the west and south coast but also in central Kapadokya.
I wrote my observations as journal entries while traveling but at the back of my mind was the idea that the more Europeans, and the English-speaking part of the world at least(1) know about the Turkish people and the land that has conditioned them and made them what they are, then the more understanding there will be among the world population. At the time of our travels this seemed to be a good thing to write for.
Unfortunately, the political and social world has changed since I first wrote the book around a decade ago. Generally, in some supposedly free countries(2) the poorly uneducated and sadly, ignorant masses of people are encouraged to be racist and taught to hate anyone who is ‘different’ by inhuman individuals(3) (not human-beings) who fail to see or do not want the masses of people to see a clear and simple fact: that we are all one race of human beings. So I am releasing this book into the world under a cloud of foreboding.
The journey’s recounted in my ebook were written well before most people started to believe the bellicose rubbish spewed out by the groups who want to control our thinking – if anyone bothers to think for themselves any more – so it does have some historical value – if anyone is bothered any more.
